The Bank of Bahrain is in the early stages of researching a CBDC, along with innovative solutions for digital payment. In 2018, the Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB), Rasheed Mohamed Al Maraj, said that the CBB is in the early stages of studying a "digital dinar," the digital version of its currency, in an interview with the Daily Tribune - News of Bahrain. In early 2020, the Central Bank of Bahrain announced that it will pilot the CBDC Policy-Maker Toolkit developed by the World Economic Forum as part of the CBB's research on the impact of digital currencies on the economy.
