In early 2020, Bank of Jamaica expressed its interests in exploring a CBDC. In a July 2020 press reslease, Bank of Jamaica invited CBDC providers to submit development and testing plans for CBDC solutions in a controlled environment in its recently established Fintech Regulatory Sandbox. In April 2021, it was announced that a pilot will be conduced from May 2021 until the end of the year. The Bank of Jamaica is reportedly slated to commence national rollout of its central bank digital currency (CBDC) platform during the first quarter of 2022
